The Jewel in the Spanish Crown
Javea, and the immediate area, is often called “The Jewel in the Spanish Crown”. If Italy has the Italian Riviera, and France the Cote d’Azur, then Spain has the Marina Alta region of the Northern Costa Blanca Coast, this region stretches from the port of Denia in the North to Altea in the south, with the jewels of Javea, Moraira and Calpe in between.
How do you best describe the area? How about “Elegant Sophistication” – do you remember how things were 30, 40 or even 50 years ago. People dressing smartly on an evening as they promenaded themselves. Families dining together, a time when manners were key and there was a certain understood etiquette that should be followed.
Welcome to Javea and the Northern Costa Blanca Coast. This area is where the wealthy Spanish families from Madrid, Barcelona and Valencia have their summer homes. There’s not a high rise in sight, no package tour companies use the area. Instead villas and apartments are the main accommodation.
This is the best of the best in Spain, wonderful coastline, with blue flag white sandy beaches, rocky coves and scenery that is amongst the best coastal scenery anywhere in the world. Restaurants and bars to die for.
Vineyards, orange/olive groves, and pine trees dominate the region. Some of the scenery is more akin to what you imagine in southern California than mainland Spain.
Welcome to Javea
There are three distinct areas that make up Javea.
- The Historic “Old Town” – a 10 minute drive
- The Port Area – a 15 minute drive
- El Arenal beach – a 10 minute drive
Each area has its own charm.
- The Old Town is full of Tapas bars, traditional Spanish bars and eateries,
- The Port Area is typically Spanish with a focus on seafood and the more traditional Spanish dishes like paella.
- El Arenal is the most cosmopolitan area, with a huge mix of diverse menus from all around the world. European, Asian, Indian, American – here you will literally find every single type of restaurant there is.
With well over 200 restaurants and bars, from Michelin 5 Star to back street gems, you will be well served in Javea.
Moraira – Highly Recommended
Definitely Ken’s favourite place, a quaint old fishing village that today host wonderful restaurants, tapas bars and shops (Not Ken’s favourite), a stunning white sandy beach with glorious views over the Ifach, or Rock of Calpe.
Enjoy getting lost in the labyrinth of narrow streets.
Moraira is just a 15 minute drive from Hideaway in Javea.

Both Joanne & Ken have a very simple philosophy, Why limit Happy to an Hour?
At Hideaway in Javea, there is something to be happy about 24 hours a day, but what better way to meet and engage with your hosts, than over drinks on the pool terrace every evening between the hours of 18:00 and 19:00 (6:00pm to 7:00pm). Joanne and Ken invite you to join them for complimentary drinks of your choice. Choose from:
Icy Cold beer | Red, white, rose or sparkling wine | Variety of Spirits and mixes | Soft drinks.
